Sometimes a gardener has to be like the early Spring flowers. After a long winter there’s no huge display, just quiet enjoyment and opening yourself up to receive as much sunlight as you possibly can. Spring arrives rather late in my shady garden but the snowdrops and crocuses have finally caught on.
I have different kinds of crocuses, botanical and cultivars. I have noticed cultivars flower a bit later than the species. I started to plant bulbs in my garden four years ago. I have added a few every year. This year I get the idea they are finally spreading themselves a bit, which is very welcome. I would love a crowded spring bulb garden.There’s a catch, you have to be extra careful and early with clearing the remnants of last season. Despite being quiet online, I have been busy though, my list of jobs can soon be found in the Calender for March.

I would love a garden full of spring bulbs but being a rather clumsy gardener – I have no doubt that I would end up doing far too much damage and never get the benefit. I have a few spring bulbs but tend to plant them in area where I’m less likely to go digging!
Great to hear your crocus are finally spreading out a bit.
I happen to step on a few often this time of year, or dig up a few throughout the rest of the gardening season… glad to know I’m not the only one.

Hier beginnen de botanische krokusjes ook eindelijk wakker te worden.
Jij zit nog wat noordelijker natuurlijk… hoewel we sowieso een fris weekend krijgen, misschien was die lente slinger nog wat voorbarig.
En hier op de Belgische zandgrond, en in volle zon is alles misschien nog een tikkeltje vroeger.
Als het om botanische krokussen gaat heb ik ook vooral hele vroege soorten, en die zijn al over hun hoogtepunt heen, maar sinds gisteren zijn de grootbloemige cultivars ineens ook opgedoken.
Bovendien zijn ook de stengelloze sleutelbloemen aan het bloeien, dus mijn bollenweitje is op dit ogenblik op z’n kleurigst.
Jij hebt je tuinstoelen ook lekker buiten staan, ja het was even leuk afgelopen week maar het is nu weer uit met de pret. Hoop dat het een beetje mee zal vallen met de kou anders krijgen sommige uitgelopen planten weer zo’n terugslag. Ben benieuwd wat er in het kasje staat, of is het nog leeg?
Crocussen zijn altijd leuk maar toch verdwijnen er altijd weer. Gezien het aantal jaren dat we hier al wonen zouden er heel wat meer in de tuin moeten staan.
